Yes. The Dawn Mountain and Golden Golf Course trails are open every day of the season, weather permitting. Grooming typically occurs between 3:00 am and 10:00 am, so please use caution during those hours. Some trails may also be temporarily closed for maintenance or events, so check the website or grooming report before heading out.

Dogs are only allowed on the Dipsy Doodle trail. Dogs are not permitted on any other trails at Dawn Mountain to maintain groomed tracks, protect the skiing experience, and ensure safety for all users. Skiers who wish to exercise their dogs can use nearby forestry roads, such as the Cedar Lake access road. Please be considerate and follow local leash laws in those areas.

No. All rental equipment—including skis, boots, poles, and snowshoes—is for use only at Dawn Mountain Nordic Centre. Rentals must be returned before the Chalet closes each day. Seasonal rentals are stored at the Chalet when not in use.
-
For classic or skate skiing, you’ll need skis, boots, and poles. Snowshoes require only proper winter boots and poles. Rentals are available at the Chalet, and staff can help with sizing and setup. Dressing in layers and bringing water and snacks is recommended for all outings
-
Yes. All skiers and snowshoers must sign in and pay trail fees each visit. Sign-in ensures proper insurance coverage, helps the club track trail usage, and supports grant applications that maintain and improve the trails. Members and non-members can sign in online or on-site at the Chalet or parking lot kiosk.
-
The club strives to be fair and accessible to all members and day users. Offering a senior discount would require raising fees for other age groups to cover lost revenue. Nordic skiing is already a low-cost activity, and the club board—five of the eight members are seniors—felt a senior discount would be unfair.
Seniors can still reduce their fees by volunteering 10+ hours per season. Look for volunteer opportunities in newsletters or contact volunteers@goldennordicclub.ca.

Dawn Mountain Nordic Centre trails are rated for beginner, intermediate, and advanced skiers. Trail maps show difficulty ratings and recommended routes. Beginners should stick to green/blue trails, while intermediate and advanced skiers can explore longer loops or more challenging terrain. Always check trail conditions and grooming reports before heading out.
-
Trail markers guide all major loops, but it’s recommended to carry a phone in case of emergencies. If you get lost, follow markers back to the Chalet or head to the nearest clearly marked trail intersection. Always dress appropriately for winter conditions and bring water and snacks.

Our grooming team posts the report by 8:00 am daily, showing which trails are groomed (classic/skate), snow conditions, new snow, and temperature. Check the Grooming Report page.

Our grooming operators always aim to create the best tracks and corduroy we can, every day. We study the snowpack and forecasts before grooming and plan each day to set up the best grooming plan we can. Sometimes this is easy, sometimes not.
Skiers are expected to ski well enough to handle irregularities on the trail.
Variable snow conditions are complex.
The snowcat comes out when about +10 cm of new snowfall happens OR if mother nature allows for a clean full reset, which usually happens every 4-5 days.
The rest of the time grooming will be done with our side-by-side and our ginzu groomer tool attached in tow, which only resets the center skate lane of the trails.
TOO warm (well in the positives) or TOO much rain will lead to poor/damaging grooming.
When the snow is very hard or very wet, it is super hard to improve the classic track, so it is best to leave it.
Sometimes to reset the classic tracks involves using our older snowcat plus our newer snowcat with multiple passes.
Do not expect the grooming to be the same every time you go out, subject to the whim of what nature throws at us.
Trail users are responsible to be able to ski on the trails under less than perfect conditions.
Challenges:
Mother nature is getting much more in-consistent which is always a learning curve on how to make the best product.
Equipment failures also happen. The groomers do checks and go over equipment everyday when in use. The side-by-side gets worked very hard while we are operating almost everyday. 'Stuff Happens.'
Sidenote: If skiers are wanting more consistent grooming with a snowcat, trail fees/member fees will rise OR fundraising is needed, for more funds to run the expensive snowcat.
Thanks for your consideration, happy Skiing.

Trails remain open unless unsafe conditions exist, such as extreme wind, poor visibility, or dangerous ice. Grooming may be delayed or cancelled during severe weather. Check the Grooming Report page and your email/newsletter for updates before heading out.

Lost or found items are kept at the Chalet. If you leave something on the trails, check with staff as soon as possible. Labeling your equipment and clothing is strongly recommended.
