Frequently Asked Questions
Why don’t you have a senior rate? The club aims to be accessible and to provide value to all of its members and day users. If the club were to offer a senior discount it would have to raise fees for other age groups to make up for the lost revenue, regardless of the tight economic circumstances of some of our younger participants. As Nordic skiing is already a relatively inexpensive activity, the board (of whom 5 of the 8 are seniors) didn’t think a senior discount would be fair. A discount membership is available for any member who volunteers 10 hours per season. Look for volunteer opportunities in our newsletters or contact our volunteer coordinator at volunteers@goldennordicclub.ca.
What time is the grooming report published? The grooming staff aims to have their report posted on the website by 8 am. This includes what trails have been groomed (for classic/skate), snow conditions, new snow (if any), and temperature at that time. For the grooming report, please check this page.
Dog policy - Aside from the Dipsy Doodle trail, dogs are not permitted on Dawn Mountain trails. The majority of our members do not wish to encounter dogs while skiing. Additionally, tracks from dogs are incompatible with our grooming standards and our capital spending program does not include building separate trails for dog skiers. Skiers wishing to exercise their dogs may do so on various forestry roads, such as the Cedar Lake access road.
