Bunnyrabbits: 3 - 5 years old
Registration will open on October 8 at 8 am (Mountain time)
The program is an enthusiastic introduction to cross-country skiing for your youngsters. Balls, hoops, short adventure trails, small hills and much more are all part of this program. Your child will learn balance, agility, and rhythm; the FUNdamentals to skiing.
Prerequisite - turning 3, 4, or 5 years old in this ski season. No experience needed.
3-year olds - We may need more Bunnyrabbits coaches to offer a program for 3-year olds this season.
Parent Involvement - Coaches require one parent/guardian to join their child to provide help with getting up, keeping warm, and staying engaged for the short session. Parents are expected to be on skis and support their child for snacks, bathroom breaks, etc.
Equipment - We have a seasonal rental program. Depending on availability, some families may take the equipment home for the season. Otherwise, you can take out your rented equipment per session. Please no “strap on skis”.
Cost - $60 plus $21 CCBC/Nordiq Canada membership, $12 CCBC program fee, and taxes. Children who are the only skier in their family will select the $1 club membership for this age category per child. Entry to the Huckleberry Loppet is included in this fee.
Location: Dawn Mountain Nordic Centre (just past the Kicking Horse ski resort base at the end of Hector Trail).
Technique: Classic skiing (no poles)
What to Bring - Skis, ski boots, snack that fits in your pocket.
What to Wear - Snow pants, mittens, toque, and long (ideally not cotton) socks to cover the skin between the boots and the snow pants. Dress in layers so when hot, the child can take off a layer.
Wednesdays from 4 - 5:00 pm
December: 10, 17 —— January 7, 14, 21, 28 —— February 4, 11, 18, 26 —— March 4, 11
Saturdays from 10 - 11:00 am
December: 13, 20 —— January 10, 17, 24, 31 —— February 7 (Huckleberry Loppet!), 14, 21, 28 —— March 7, 14
Space - we have space for 8 participants in each group (but have been known to make exceptions, so check in with us!)
Cold weather policy - We will email families the night before or at least by 8 am the day of the program if we need to cancel due to adverse conditions. We consider temperature, windchill factor, and sunshine. Generally, our cut-off temperature is between -12 and -15 C. Sometimes, we just stay closer to the Chalet and come inside to warm up. Each season we usually cancel one or two sessions (not postponed) due to the cold.
